Key Environmental Initiatives

As Clean Up the World Members can conduct activities in support of the campaign at any time of the year, we encourage your group to learn about, and consider timing activities to align with, these important global environmental initiatives.

Your group may also want to celebrate and support regional, national or local days of environmental significance.

Whatever day your choose to support by conducting an activity, make sure you register it on the Clean Up the World website.

Clean Up the World Initiatives

Clean Up the World Weekend

Clean Up the World’s flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend, held on the 3rd weekend in September each year.

In 2014, Clean Up the World Weekend will be held from the 19th to the  21st of September.

United Nations Initiatives

UN World Water Day (March 22)

International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

UNEP World Environment Day (June 5)

World Environment Day, celebrated each year on 5 June is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations Environment Programme stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and focuses political attention and action.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the period from 2011 to 2020 as the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity.
