Chairman and Founder Clean Up the World, Ian Kiernan AO*

“Hi, I’m Ian Kiernan, founder and chairman of Clean Up the World. As you’ve no doubt heard – there’s a lot happening at the international level in the lead up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December. We at Clean Up the World hope that leaders of our governments take this opportunity to make the right decisions for our environment, all people, current and future generations.

But we - as communities - don’t have to wait for them. We can play our part and do something right now. I call on all environmental groups and active communities to “Unite to combat climate change” by organising and delivering an activity for the Clean Up the World Weekend on 18-20 September.

Clean Up the World mobilises millions of volunteers each year, showing the type of leadership at the local level that we all want to see at the global level. So let’s get together and make this the biggest year of participation in Clean Up the World ever. We’re aiming for 750 registered groups by 18 September.

It’s the perfect opportunity for you and your community to lend a hand to the environment. Many local actions combined will help tackle climate change on a global scale. So register today at activities.cleanuptheworld.org.
