 MEDIA RELEASE  21 April 2008

Australian Environmental Campaigner to Speak at the United Nations and US Secretary of Treasury, Henry Paulson's Earth Day Events next week
Kim McKay....co-author of True Green book series and Clean Up Co-founder gives
American's insights into how to improve their workplaces

Sydney:   Australian environmental campaigner and co-author of the True Green series of books, Kim McKay, will speak at the United Nations Earth Day celebrations in New York on a distinguished panel of senior UN officials on Monday 21 April.  This will be followed by a key-note address to senior US Treasury officials and guests as part of the US Secretary of the Treasury, Henry Paulson's Earth Day event in Washington DC on Tuesday 22 April.

Earth Day, a community awareness and action campaign has operated in the USA for more than 35 years and is the annual focus of American community action on the environment.

Ms. McKay, who is the co-founder and deputy chairwoman of Clean Up Australia and Clean Up the World (a project held in conjunction with the United Nations Environment Programme), will be speaking about how American's and others in the developed world can reduce their carbon footprint by greening the workplace.

The second book in the True Green series, True Green @ Work...100 Ways You Can Make the Environment Your Business (by Kim McKay & Jenny Bonnin with business journalist Tim Wallace...ABC Books in Australia/National Geographic Books in the US) has recently been released in the USA and has generated widespread interest.

"More than 80 percent of US workers polled in a recent National Geographic survey believe it is important to work for a company or organizations that make the environment a top priority.  Yet, only 53 percent currently work for a company or organization that implements environmental or sustainable programs in the workplace," Ms. McKay said.

"This is consistent with a similar study we conducted in Australia - the message for business owners and operators is loud and clear - if you want to have a successful business and retain staff, then you had better implement sound environmental sustainability principles," she said.

The "Meet the Author" event at the UN in New York on Monday will feature Ms. McKay along with the Under Secretary General of the UN Department of Information, Mr Akasaka Kiyotaka, the Managing Director of UNEP, NY, Ms Juanita Castano, the Chief UN Publications, Mr Christopher Woodthorpe and the Austrlaan Charge D'Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador, Ms. Frances Lisson.

Secretary Paulson's Earth Day Event and Award Ceremony on Tuesday will have 150 guests including Mrs Ethel Kenney and Mrs Wendy Paulson, a long time environmental advocate.  The Washington, DC event will include a key-note address from Kim McKay who has previously addressed US Treasury officials on the need to green the workplace.
